In "A Bird in the Hand", a compulsive gambler - Harold McCain played by Greg Evigan resorts to seeking financial assistance from his wealthy uncle, but when his request is denied, he devises a scheme to murder him. However, his plan backfires when his uncle is accidentally killed in a hit-and-run accident, while his gardener becomes a victim of the gambler's original murder plot. The case takes Lieutenant Columbo on a winding path of twists and turns before the truth is ultimately revealed and the case is closed. There are effictively 2 villains in this episode, Harold McCain and Dolores McCain played by Greg Evigan and Tyne Daly respectively. Tyne Daly is an American actress born on February 21, 1946, in Madison, Wisconsin. She is best known for her work on stage, film, and television, and is considered one of the most versatile and accomplished actresses of her generation. Daly began her acting career on stage, performing in numerous productions both on and off Broadway. It was her role as Detective Mary Beth Lacey in the hit television series "Cagney & Lacey" (1982-1988) that brought her widespread recognition and critical acclaim. She was Lacey. Throughout her career, Daly has won numerous awards for her acting and she has also been inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.
